Project Purple - Our Charity |
A limited number of registrations are also available to those who wish to fund-raise for Project Purple, a non-profit organization created with the goal of raising awareness and funding to help find early testing and ultimately a cure for pancreatic cancer.
Jayne Snyder, a former Board Member for the Lincoln Track Club, passed away from pancreatic cancer in 2011. To honor her and all those affected by this cancer, Project Purple is the designated charity at this year's Lincoln Marathon and Half-Marathon. Pancreatic cancer is ranked #4 of the 10 deadliest cancers. It is also the least funded of the top ten cancers. Less than 6% of those diagnosed live five years.
Project Purple is working hard to change these statistics with the motto "running to beat pancreatic cancer." Most recently they gifted a $150,000 grant to the University of Nebraska Medical Center. They also support patients and families affected by this disease through a Patient Financial Aid Program and a Scholarship Program.
Please apply directly with Project Purple at www.run4projectpurple.org.
Spots filled quickly last year so it is recommended that runners apply within the first three weeks of January.
