River Run 5k

For the purpose of expanding the opportunities we provide to local children at risk, we are excited to announce a joint venture between the 10th Annual RGI, Inc. River Run and the 30th Annual Runners' Club Memorial Day Race. On Saturday, May 27, 2006, these two races will partner to create a new race ... the RGI Runners' Club River Run. The proceeds of the event will support Kicks For Kids' efforts to help children in the tri-state who are challenged physically, mentally or by the environment in which they live.

In an effort to attract more runners and school teams, while continuing to appeal to families with young children, the RGI Runners' Club River Run will differ from the other two events in several ways. First, it will take place on the Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend, thus launching the summer running season. Registration and all of the post-race events will occur in Newport-an area that has entertainment options for people of all ages. And the final significant revision is that the feature run/walk will be a more common distance that allows for easier "personal best" comparisons ... a 5K.

Our goal for the RGI Runners' Club River Run is for it to be a quality fundraiser that appeals to top runners as well as recreational athletes, families and school teams. Through partnering with the Runners' Club of Greater Cincinnati, and making the improvements listed above, we are confident that on May 27th you will find that we have achieved this goal.

Saturday, May 27 at the Purple People Bridge (Newport)
9:30 AM - 5K Run/Walk
10:35 AM - Special K
10:45 AM - Children’s Fun Run

5K Run/Walk: For those runners and fitness walkers 15 years old and above:
1st Male & Female - Each receives free Domino's Pizza for a year (terms and conditions apply)
2nd Male & Female - Each receives a Gift Card to The Tavern Restaurant Group
3rd Male & Female - Each receives a Gift Card to The Tavern Restaurant Group
Also, the top 10 male and female runners receive our event-specific Headsweats(r) race hat and a distinctive award. The top 25 male and female runners and the top 10 male and female fitness walkers receive a distinctive award. All of these awards will be given out at the finish line.

Children: A season pass to the Newport Aquarium and a trophy will be awarded to the top male and female finishers in three divisions (8 & Under, 9-11, 12-14). The 2nd and 3rd place male and female finishers in each of those three divisions will receive a trophy.

Children's Fun Run and Special K: All Children's Fun Run participants receive a commemorative ribbon. Each Special K athlete receives a medal.

All participants, their families and friends, and the event's volunteers are invited to a post event party at the Hofbräuhaus. The celebration begins in the Bier Garten at 11:00 AM. At the party, each paid entrant, Special K athlete and volunteer can use the one (1) ticket they receive at registration for their choice of the following:

* If under 21, a mettwurst, bratwurst OR hot dog AND a soft drink
* If 21 or over, same as above OR a 1/2 litre of beer
