About the Organizers:

Southern's Future Teachers Organization (SFTO) is a club at Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU) established to encourage all education majors to gain extra experience in the field and build connections within the local schools. This club is comprised of enthusiastic future educators wanting to serve the local schools and educational programs as much as possible. Some of the related events that SFTO has put on include Literacy Nights at local schools where club members will read and do related activities and crafts with the students, and the Academic Carnival a similar event.

About the Beneficiary:

Rain of Hope focuses on helping individuals to care and nurture the world around them, empower them to understand complex issues facing our community and environment, and work together to help solve these problems at hand. Rain of Hope, Inc. is a Connecticut based nonprofit and registered 501(c)(3) organization.

Similar to SFTO's goal to contribute to and work with local schools, Rain of Hope is starting with the children and providing an educational, community service based experience where the students will learn valuable skills to help shape them into a positively contributing member of the community. Rain of Hope creates age-appropriate, community service learning programs for schools and the community. Through a strategic partnership with local nonprofits, each program is connected to a fundamental community-based need or service area. The simple lessons of compassion and problem solving will develop strong fundamental skills to attain the goal of Rain of Hope, Inc., which is to teach individuals that they have the power to shape their community.

Rain of Hope works closely with SCSU's Elementary Education department to ensure each lesson is academically enriched, while remaining mission driven. In fact, SCSU Teaching Interns support most of our classes.
